Before the match both teams gathered for a minute's silence in memory of G Charlton Lamb who had captained many a Nomads XI against S & M and earlier the Gaieties. Chris Reardon S & M skipper spoke a few words in memory of a much missed Nomad.

Nomads unable to defend modest total

Nomads won the toss and batted first. David Williams and Rohan ghosh put on a swift 102 opening partnership before Rohan was bowled by a 'pearler'. the innings momentum was maintained by Gautom Menon and when Williams was out caugh for an excellent century Nomads seemed headed for a big total. This did not happen as David Leng having his first ball for a boundary was then perhaps unluckily adjudged lbw and 20 runs later Gautom mishit a cut straight to point. Charlie Dickins went for a second ball duck and then Chris Wilson struggled against the spin with Andy Gregory stuck at the non striker's end. Andy all at the crease for 48 minutes only faced 26 balls scoring a most useful 35. Eventually Nomads innings closed at 235 off 40 allotted overs some 20 below par.

sumptuous tea followed which seemed to effect young Roy's radar and S & M's batsmen maintained an over rate of 6 per over. Andy Gregory persisted and was rewarded with the wickets of the first three batsmen, one bowled, the other two caught by David Leng and finished with 3-41 off 8.Gautom Menon bowled relatively tidily 8 overs for 43 but without luck. However it was David MacVicar replacing Gregory who took two wickets, a caught and bowled and the other caught behind by Charlie Dickins.

Arguably with S & M at 135-5 Nomads were still in with a good chance of winning. However the result of several drop outs was a serious weakening of our bowling armoury. in the event Sarwan hit a whirlwind 49 with several mighty sixes before being baffled by David Leng 'pearler' which he meekly hit back at the bowler. however the he and number 4 batsman Hassan had swung the match firmly S & M's way. A late returning Roy bowled number 8 for 2 and had number 9 Singh in trouble but the match was already won though 5 wides is not the most satisfactory way to lose at the other end Hassan had scored an accomplished 82.

The original team had included Fahad Raja, Will Vincent, Rohan Sur and Kasam Yousuf so in the circumstances Nomads had done well and thanks to those who filled the missing men.

Steve Marians and Charles Fellows-Smith visited the match and drank with us afterwards
