AE Stoddart was seventh out, took six hours and ten minutes and included 1 eight, 3 fives, 64 fours. The 813 took six hours fifteen minutes. 485 was the highest score in all forms of cricket, beating Mr JS Carrick's 419* for West of Scotland v Priory Park in 1885 (later beaten by AEJ Collins 628* in 1899).
AE Stoddart played for Middlesex CCC and Stoics CC. He eventually took his own life.
A Century later Stoics challenged Hampstead to a rematch under the 1886 Laws. Hampstead declined and Stoics won the match. Keith Miller watched the 1996 match ." This is Cricket History" he remarked to Topsy, Gerald's wife, who had spotted him sitting on a boundary bench watching the match and quizzed him as to why he was there!.
In 2016 a further commemorative match was held together with presentations and orations from Andrew Stauss and David Frith.
