Nomads won a tight  contest  with a number of notable performances.

Batting first on a wicket that played better than it looked (but only just) Highgate amassed 245 all out from 44 overs.  Once Nomads cricketer Gallagher threatened an onslaught that brought him 48 quick runs, one six leaving an irreplaceable dent in the sightscreen before the introduction of Andrew Smith stemmed the flow of runs and brought him a 4 wicket haul.

Experienced seam bowler David McVicor also bowled with great control and with a tad more good fortune would have added to a couple of wickets to his haul. The most astonishing contribution was by William Vincent who took 5 catches in the outfield and ran-out two of the Highgate batsmen with his rocket of an arm. He did not fare as well with the ball and his 4 overs were dispatched for 43.

In reply Nomads started cautiously with Tom Brockton and Keith Alexander putting on 60 for the opening wicket in 17 overs. Alexander (30) was well taken at mid off but Brockton and Saj Ayub both scored 68 in a partnership of almost a hundred.  Brockton was bowled by a big off-break from Gallagher but Vincent strode to the crease and hit a number of lusty blows in an even 50 before he was well taken at cover.

Ayub then departed as did Andrew Smith, despite hitting the shot of the day which flew like a shell straight back over the bowlers head for 6.  With overs running out debutant Adam Nicholson was unfortunate to glove a sweep shot and was taken by the keeper and it was left to Danny Buckland and David MacVicar to bat for the final 3 overs where 19 runs were needed. Some sprightly fielding restricted them to just 10 runs from 2 overs so 9 were needed from the final 6 balls.  MacVicar swung the willow gamefully and managed to scythe two delivers over short 3rd man for boundaries meaning only 1 was needed from 3 balls. MacVicar was certainly equal to the task and Nomads were victorious by the most slender of margins!
