Sivier ton and Nomads bowling too good for Nantes

We met Andy German and Chris Bartlett many moons ago when Nomads made several visits to Saumur and Les Ormes in France. Since when they have created and nurtured Nantes CC with both a men's and women's section predominantly made up of Ethnic French players . On their first tour to UK tour in UK Nomads arranged to play them at Eversley CC. On the far side of the ground and over the road is a large Pub 'The Frog and Wicket'. The French visitors wondered if the pub was so called to honour their visit but when told 'Non' were still pleased to be playing before such an apposite landmark. The match began early and a 35/35 over format was agreed as the club had a Colts match to play at 6pm.

With another match on the same day at Vincent Square Nomads were stretched to put out two sides. However with our Frogs CC connections and Alex Sykes' top Prep School cricketers we put out an eleven. Among the youngsters was the son of Andrew Strauss.

Nomads won the toss and batted first. Nantes's steady bowling was rewarded with 3 early wickets,51-3 whereupon Josh Sivier later partnered by Alex Sykes plundered the bowling so that Nomads finished on 239-6 off 35 overs. Josh retired on 103 his maiden century for Nomads.

After a magnificent tea Bernard removed one Nantes opener but it was Sohi  who then removed both numbers 3 and 4 for ducks and later Meunier also a duck (Les Trois Canards). Campion took the wickets of top scorers Andy German, Ackroyd and the big hitter Blondel to finish with 3 for 25 while  the tail was finished off by Dr CB Stride and Richard Chalk so that Nantes were all out off the last ball of the  35th over. Nomads had won by 97 runs though Nantes were to have their revenge in France later in the summer.
