Disappointing Nomads batting gifts Wembley an easy run chase
Nomads suffered several drop outs for the Tuesday game at Wembley somewhat enfeebling the side though the late inclusion of John Olive helped make the game competitive. Nomads batted first and started brightly but the casual run out of Rohan Ghosh on 21 precipitated a tumble of wickets including the imperious looking Olive. To restore some semblance of respectability to our score the opposition skipper Charlie Meyers introduced himself and his high slow lobs to gift us some boundaries which we took. However when we did not at once declare at 140 odd leaving them 36/38 overs to get them he became very overstressed. In the event we still declared a bit early at 162-9 off 46 overs. The last unbeaten stand added 28 runs.
After an excellent tea we restarted a trifle late. Our opening bowlers John Olive and Suraj Vithiani removed the top three and when Jack Bassett removed number five Wembley were 64-6 and we had a match. Unfortunately a series of dropped catches enabled Javed and Amin to add 80 runs. Although Gautom Menon had Javed caught by the President at slip and Olive returning removed Amin, Wembley were now 147-6 with only 16 more required to win. In the event Makwana and Butcher scored the remaining runs to win with 4 overs to go. This 7th wicket pair incidently scored 146 for the 1st wicket against us last year. Wembley had won in 26 overs, Clearly an over generous declaration.
Charlie complained about a late declaration 'No trousers' Stan & Gautom with the President in the bar afterwards
