At the start of the Northwood innings a rout was anticipated!

This was the week of drop outs and for this match we had to replace four at late notice. Thanks therefore to Tom Brockton, Ranjit Latchman, Charles Peerless  and Johnno Gordon for supplying a late sub. Unsure of our prowess with the bat the skipper inserted Northwood on a damp day and in his first over Johnno Gordon took two wickets.Yet the loss of the injured Sajjad proved to prove crucial.

With Northwood on the back foot Nomads set attacking fields and most of Zaman and Brockton's early runs came from mishits and snicks. Both survived perilously, one should have been caught at first slip and yet they hung on to lunch and prospered therafter putting on 145 before Ted Beckwith removed Zaman. Stuart Reeve and Brockers then accelerated adding 72 before Brockers hit a cracking drive straight at Charles Peerless who held on to the catch. Tom had scored another ton and this time against us. Although Andy Smith took another wicket he and Beckwith took some punishment from Reeve before Northwood declared at 272-5 off  48 overs.

This left Nomads with a lot of overs to chase the target of 273. For a brief while Gordon hit a series of imperious boundary shots while Damon Wilson defended stoutly. Then Damon was caught behind off Ram Nandiraju and a flurry of wickets fell including poor Shaq Zaman run out for a duck by Johnno. Eventually Johnno was caught by Brockers off spinner Dhanatunke who took three more wickets cheaply. Ted Beckwith struck out merrily but he fell to a leg side slow full toss just as the President was preparing for along vigil at the other end.

Nomads had lost a match by 136 runs which had started so well! Nevertheless we stayed and drank late for it was a very enjoyable day despite the result. On the Northwood side were  three past and present Nomads.
