What a Draw!

A match of contrasts. Nomads' strong top order batting collapsed to the bowling of Arthur and Golder so much so that the innings stood at 74 -6 and that after a brief repost from Lamb. At lunch Nomads were 100-6. Whether or not the usually excellent Johnians lunch effected the players or not Ghersie and Nagenda prospered to add 92 for the 7th wicket and with assistance from Don Mann and Paul Maloney Nomads were able to declare after 44 overs setting Johnians 200 to win. Mike Ghersie top scored with 58.

Johnians top order seemed to be chasing down the modest total with ease but then following the tea break and 170-2 the innings imploded with 4 wickets falling for ten runs to Lamb and Leahy. Lamb bowled the penultimate over and was punished by Lane going for 12 runs. So there was just 5 runs required to win as the last over began. Nagenda had Golder caught Whiteway first ball and then Anthony could only hit 3 runs off the remaing 5 balls leaving Johnians two short of victory, match drawn.

What idiot ever said a draw is boring!

Nomads and Johnians celebrated long into the night and such was the natural authority of John Nagenda that one younger Johnian was despatched to a nearbye off licence to purchase a bottle of Laphroaig." Sibley you have a bar and no single malt whisky: Put that right " and they did.
