Nomads undone by Hambledon lobs 

On Thursday at Hambledon, Nomads duly visited the cradle of cricket and lost yet again to Hambledon. We won the toss and put the opposition in in a 40/40 match.
 
 We had sparse bowling resources and yet did well to keep a strong Hambledon batting line up down to a total of 256-4. Peter Sumner had an exemplary spell with 8-0-30-1 and Roahn Sur and Seethal Tharakan only went for 42 but our debutant Sameer who had never bowled in a match before went for nearly ten an over yet took two wickets.

Likewise Gautom Menon was punished. Charlie Dickens had a good day behind the stumps stumping one and catching another.. Following an enormous tea Nomads having lost another debutant Bill Butt cheaply senior batsmen Andy Peters and David Williams put on 84 quickly before Williams was unlucky to be adjudged lbw.

However Peter and Sameer Butt added another 60 before both were out, 162-4, At this point in the game Hambledon had most of the fielders back near or on the boundary and were bowling slow donkey drops. This tactic was too much for our powerful middle order of Gautom Menon and Rohan Sur who soon committed batting suicide whereupon Charlie Dickins and Peter Sumner made merry for a while so that we finished some 34 short.

A little more inteligent application and we may have been much closer.
