Nomads cheerful in defeat

Swinging Patel takes Leatherhead to victory

Nomads won the toss and batted.Rupert Style and Jack Manners starte d the innings with impetus,Jack cutting to good efffect and Rupert driving.Jack cut once too often and was caught behind for 27 off Robinson who then removed skipper Brockton with a slow lifter for a duck. John Thornton joined Style and took the score to 80 whereupon he was bowled by Perry for 13.Shortly after Style misdrove to give a soft catch to Hussain. With the score now 110-4,Richard Fanthorpe joined Andrew Smith and these painstackingly rebuilt the innings until Andy Smith began to punish the relentless Robinson.at 163 Fanthorpe fell seeking abig shot and then both Omer Ayaz and Chris Page fell to the young spinner Hussain whio had been introduced rather late into the attack. Charlie Dickins hit a couple of boundaries and nomads declared at 190-7 off 44 overs, perhaps 30 runs below par.Andy Smith finished on 57 not out, a patient well crafted knock.Leatherhead's Robinson had bowled unchanged taking 3-102 off 22 overs,Nagenda would have appreciated his stamina.

After an excellent tea Nomads opened with Enzo Nicoli and Omer Ayaz and both were quickly rewarded with both openers gone for 7.Omer struck again bowling McGarchie leaving Leatherhead struggling at 38-3. the tall slim Patel joined the dogged Perry and these two added 70 runs before Chris Page deceived Perry to give a caught and bowled catch. Robinson joined Patel to add a further quick 63 runs not without chances as they laid into The slows of Massey and Page. With the game seemingly lost it took another twist as the reluctant skipper replaced Massey and the returning Omer replaced Page. Omer took two wickets and Brockton threatened. The runs slowed to a snails pace as the target neared but then two streaky boundaries off Omer settled the matter in Leatherhead's favour by 4 wickets with Robinson 25 not out. Leatherhead's victory owed much to young Patel who struck many a mighty boundary six.

Nomads lingered a good while after the match pondering on what might have happened if only!
