Nomads make it 1-1 for 2003
T he club achieved an 8 wicket victory over NPL Lensbury despite the home club flying in Indian Ranji Trophy cricketer A. Jack Kumar. NPL had won the Thames Valley League the day before and were a bit tardy in appearing for a 1.00 start.
The game may be remembered for two astonishing catches. First Andy Stokes to remove Churchman off Rob Leachman’s bowling and Jamie Lane to remove Wooster also off Leachman. If all the bowlers were equally well served by the fielders woweeee what a side we would be.!!.
NPL won the toss and elected to bat.Stokes claimed an early wicket but then Churchman and Wooster batted well with a flurry of big hits and some luck to post a substantial partnership.
Leachman removed the big hitters and Williams took another wicket but Nomads could not take another wicket as Weeson and Flux again with a healthy dose of good fortune took the score on to the declaration after 44 overs bowled.
By this time a hungover Champion had arrived with A Jack Kumar so when O'Sullivan and Lane opened there was a fair bit of playing and missing the away swinging ball.
Despite Kumar the openers put on a healthy stand of 77 before O'Sullivan was controversially given out lbw a great way down the pitch.
Lane and Stokes added nearly 80 with the help of some ancient lobs at one end and treble voiced seamers at the other when Lane was adjudged lbw and did not like it.
Russell Mann joined Stokes who now accelerated with some big shots in the 'V' to give Nomads an 8 wicket victory in 41 overs. One over still to go.
Nomads had lost to NPL in May so this victory evens things up.
