                           Veteran spin bewilders Kensington

Nomads recorded a comfortable win over Kensington who were weaker than usuall suffering some late drop outs. Both sides ended up playing as ten as Bill Johnson spent the day with Vicky in Bath while Wajid refused to get out of his bed for Kensington. A diminutive young Nayar fielded for perhaps an hour for Kensington but was menacing enough in the field to make Jamie Lane cautious of taking another run for the throw!

On a Barnes pitch of uneven bounce Nomads lost two early wickets to Tahir Saeed who was the pick of the KCC bowlers. Woolhouse and Lane then added 78 runs before Woolhouse drove ambitiously and was bowled by Chetan Singh.Andy Hill  joined Jamie and these two added 70 before Jamie was bowled by John Behar for an elegant 68. Babs Odulawe batted with characteristic flourish before falling to the returning Saeed who then accounted for Andy Hill too. Lamb and Clarke then put on some 30 runs before the declaration came. Nomads' total had been assisted by some 43 extras and some indifferent bowling, Tahir aside, on what was a dodgy pitch. San Gore behind the stumps put in heroic work otherwise the extras would have been much more!

After an excellent tea Nomads took the field with Richard Clark seam and Michael Blumberg slow ?spin.Such was the pitch that Blumberg's failing, the very slow long hop  became a devasting ankle height  ball and two such accounted for Rohan Ghosh and skipper Chris Ledger while Richard Clark had David Behar limp driving to be caught by a remarkable catch from Jamie Lane who toatlly misjudged the flight of the ball but miraculously hung on one handed nevertheless.

Chris Page replaced Clarke and was soon deceiving the batsmen with his magic. First Neeraj Nayar was caught and bowled and then San Gore misdrove to give Lane a much easier catch.

Despite the fall of wickets Kensington were up with the required run rate and with a mostly veteran  non running set of fielders the target was still there to be chased without committing suicide especially as KCC batted down to number 8 and Blumberg bowled almost throughout with no legside boundary fielder. However Page bowled a strangley subdued Saeed with a beauty and Power miscued another Blumberg long hop that bounced a bit this time straight to Page at shortish extra cover.

John Behar batting too low in the order  struck a few mighty blows. One six out of the ground inflicted serious damage on the slated roof of a neighbouring house. Chetan Singh's eyes lit up but he misdrove in the air straight to Andy Hill at mid off yet Blumberg failed to remove next man Gupta, jug avoidance. So it Was Chris Page who finished off the innings having John Behar first dropped by Jeremy Lascelles on the boundary at long on but then held by Babs Odulawe at extra cover next ball.

Chris Ledger named Michael Bumberg Nomads Man of Match not so much for his dreadful bowling but for one astonishing piece of fielding while Charlton Lamb awarded Neeraj Nayar the same for Kensington presumably because Tahir does not drink alcohol.

In addition to the Cobra Beer a good quantity of ale was consumed together with the remnants from tea and Nomads missing player Bill Johnson arrived to join the celebrations.

Despite the absence of senior KCC members who were off to a Committee meeting three Nomad stalwarts did the honours at the bar much to the chagrin of the young barman who evidently had better things planned for the evening.

Nomads President ME Blumberg is also  Vice-President of Kensington CC. Five members of this Kensington side have also played for Nomads, two this season.
