                                   Chris Page Bamboozles opposition

Some good bowling from Andrew Gregory'The Pope' and Ross Ormiston helped Nomads to a convincing victory at Roydon but the vital element was the guile of veteran Chris Page and his huge hands.Page took a fifer but it could have been more as the Roydon batsmen could not resist attacking the seeming innocence of Page's cunning lobs.

Nomads had won the toss and elected to bat. This decision was forced on the skipper as once again several nomads were late and one had dropped out ill that morning. The latter drop out gave very young Omar Wakefield his chnce to debit for Nomads and avery fearless fielder he turned out to be.

Nomads openers struggled against some accurate bowling from Blemkin and Mann so that after 10 overs the score was a mere 30 for the loss of Kie Farrell bowled by Mann. Brockton and Ormiston had added a further 20 runs when Ormiston pulled a rank long hope straight to Blemkin at backward square leg,40-2 off 15 overs. Paul Wakefield joined Brockers and these two added 127 for the 3rd wicket. With the departure of Wakers for 53 the skipper accelerated and some 40 runs in 7 overs including a straight six from Richard Fanthorpe. Brockers duly reached his century and ran out Fanthorpe whereupon he declared setting Roydon a target of 206 off a potential 43 overs.

After consuming most of a mountain of cooked chicken Nomads took the field distinctly short of bowlers. Page and The Pope opened for Nomads and the Roydon openers were constrained so that when Chris Page caufght and bowled Blemkin the score was but 38 off 12 overs. Gregory took three wickets removing batsmen 1,3 and 5, 2 bowled and 1 stumped. This left roydon reeling at 63-4 off 21 overs.

Frederick and Hitch added 40 runs only for chris Page to enduce a second caught and bowled,103-5 off 28 overs. Hitch stood firm while Page removed MT and I Brooks but he fell to Ormiston for atop score of 37,129-8 off 35 overs leaving 8 overs to go and two wickets to get.Hugo morris having declined a previous chance caught Mann in 'deepish cow corner'.An important scalp as Mann had looked very steady, 145-9 off 36.

Number 11 is normally the Roydon scorer and had been drafted in to play due to a very late drop out yet it took another four over before the batsman succumbed to playing on, the ball trickling round him to just dislodge the off bail. Nomads had won by 59 runs with 4 overs to go and Chris Page had taken another fifer.

Both teams lingered on at the nearbye New Inn before the visitors bade farewell to Roydon and thanked them for their hospitality and the game.
