Nomads lose thriller from unlikely position
Nomads got rather bogged down at NPL against some tight bowling despite 89 from Srikanth. A whirlwind 44 from Tom Lascelles enabled us to declare at 195-7. A protracted tea reduced the overs available to NPL but some fine seam bowling from Tom had them quickly reeling at 25-4 after 10 overs. However Weeson and Guthrie stopped the rot yet with two wickets falling to Srikanth at 109-6 the advantage still seemed to be with us.
A fine stand by skipper Woollatt and Darby saw NPL attack the bowling as the overs were running out. Unfortunately Tom Lascelles was unable to find the form of his first spell and was somewhat savaged at the end. Probably James While would have made them fight harder and Srikanth should have bowled at the other end. Even so NPL lost Woollatt to Srikanth at 185 in the penultimate over leaving them with nine runs to win off six balls. After a couple of singles and a dot ball Darby hit Tom for two fours and with one ball to spare NPL had won a very exciting match leaving while somewhat benmused in the outfield."Did I not save the match for you last year?"
Vice President Tony Whiteway was a welcome visitor to this match. Several Nomads of great age left the clubhouse at 11pm arriving home through a mismatch of public railways and buses at 1am!
