Nomads overwhelm a weak Frensham

On what turned out to be a glorious sunny afternoon Nomads returned to the delightful Frendham ground after a ten year lapse.

Tom Brockton won the toss and elected to bat. Victor Kandampully and Olly Smith were soon flaying the friendly bowling but then Olly got carried away and miscued amighty blow only to sky it and be caught, 1-16. the skipper was next to go as ambitious as Olly and was also caught miscuing. Young Miss Dibdin had taken two wickets. David Steele joined Vic to add a further 68 before being bowled round his legs. Although the bowling was pretty poor Frost bowled a neat tidy spell until his seventh over which was expensive whereupon he was taken off. Ross Ormiston, powerful off the back foot, added 92 with Vic. As Vic approached a swashbuckling ton he got out for 87., careless!  Ross completed his fifty before getting out whereupon Savage Sajjad laid about the bowling for a few minutes to amass 37 not out and bring the Nomads total to 268-5 off 39 overs and the declaration.

Skipper Brockton sensing Frensham's batting may not be adequate rested Sajjad Shawl and opened with Omer Ayaz and Croomers. Omer quickly removed the top three and was promptly taken off to be replaced by Pagie. Croomers had a longer spell and took two wickets one a caught and bowled off a mighty blow. Pagie took a diving caught and bowled too and Croomers caught at full stretch a one handed catch at silly mid on to give Pagie two. Tom Brockton introduced Olly Smith who promptly took two wickets in his first over. His second over was less precise but with the first ball of his third over he bowled number 11. Frensham were all out for 56 in 19.1 overs.

It was a fine evening and Nomads lingered over several bottles of ale and lager before departing. Nevertheless it was a great shame that the Frensham side was not of the same calibre as a decade ago.The showers were excellent.
