Mighty Sajjad rips through Headley yet again
Nomads recorded a remarkable victory at Headley CC on Sunday. With poor weather the previous 2 days it was with some surprise that captain of the day Andrew Smith advised the game was indeed going ahead, so Nomads made the trip to rural Surrey to play our long standing rivals.

Nomads batted first on an understandably wet deck, that had been heavily rolled. Style & Farrell got the Nomads off to a decent start with a number of early boundaries off the wayward seamer Clark. After putting on 50 for the first wicket in good time Style was adjudged LBW (much to his discontent) and Liversidge joined Farrell. Their stand was to be a short one, with Liversidge bowled neck and crop by the impressive Noble who ran in with real gusto despite the slow surface.

Farrell was now into the 40's and accompanied by Brockton looked to push the scoring forward, but as the effect the heavy roller had on the wicket started to dissipate the going got considerably tougher (a la Billy Ocean) & Nomads got going, mainly back to the pavilion.
Farrell, Smith, Lane and Steele all falling fowl of the increasingly low bounce, and Sajjad Shawl a 1st ball golden duck. However, Brockton was digging in and after Smith called in his troops Nomads were 146-8 dec. A relatively small total on the face of things but with the wicket now playing some serious tricks Headley's batsmen would have to be at their best to overhaul this total.
Shawl set the tone, clearly keen to make amends for his lackluster batting performance, ripping out the middle pole of the Headley opener with just the 2nd ball of the innings, Brockton then trapped Miles LBW plumb in front for 0 to put Headley in more than a spot of bother. Both bowlers were unnerving in line and length with wicket after wicket falling and hardly a run being added to the total.
Kie Farrell pouched two catches to assist Brockton and then Brockton & Style turned provider for Shawl. Headley were now 10-8 from 12 overs! Brockton and Shawl had combined figures of 8 wickets for 8 runs.  Sajjad had a well deserved 5 wicket haul for his efforts and conceded just 4 runs!

Smith rightly took off both bowlers, replacing them with Steele & Ormiston. The former bowled a few loose delivers allowing the chirpy Barton to free his arms, but Steele got the last laugh having Barton caught by Liversidge on the mid-wicket boundary to end the game. The home side routed for just 40 giving Nomads a victory by the margin of 106 runs

FOW - 0, 4, 7, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 30, 40

Headley supremo Sir Michael Pickard arrived to catch the last 20 overs, alas the game was finished and players already in the bar. Nomads out stayed and out drank their opponents and only left the pretty ground once Headley skipper Midmer asked them to leave so he could lock up.

Our thanks to Headley and importantly messers Pickering & Midmer for such a sterling effort in getting the ground fit for the days play.
