 Nomads prevail in rearranged contest

NPL cancelled this match as they could not raise a Sunday side. In veiw of the loss of cricket to the weather it see,s somewhat incredible that NPL's cricketers would not wish to play on Sunday and get some cricket. Luckily Barnes needed to fill a blank and so we travelled once more to Lonsdale Road and this time the weather held though cloudy and distinctly chilly at times. Such rearrangements often result in  cricketers going awhol and thus it was that we played ten and they nine.

Tom Brockton won the toss and elected to bat  and was soon back in the pavilion as was Andy Smith removed by seamer Hilton. However Andy Hill, our 'mighty mouse' stood firm and he and debutant Sam Grimley added 72 for the third wicket. Hill was bowled by Foulds for 64. A Sajjad Shawl cameo was cut short by a run out but Haider Kamal found the middle of his bat to hit nine boundaries and record a fifty on debut. Nomads thus posted a credable 212-6 off the allocated 40 overs.

After a an excellent tea Brockton with a remakable caught and bowled and shawl quickly reduced Barnes to a perilous 8-3. However Martin stood firm taking the score with Pinnegar to 87-4 and then 110-5 before falling to Kamal. Kamal removed Foulds for a duck to put nomads in the driving seat despite Barnes swift rate of scoring.

Grant and Datey took the score to 155 befor Abbas took a wicket amidst a flurry of fours. Hilton now joined Datey and these two batted with great confidenceadding a further 43runs before Buckland stumped Hilton off Brockton's bowling. Datey was left stranded on 42 and looked a very good bat, thankfully for Nomads he had batted so late in the order.

Nomads had thus won by 14 runs.
