Keith Alexander plunders 94 at Follies Farm

With the sun shining at last Nomads won the toss and elected to bat first at Follies Farm. There were murmurings in the dressing room about the state of the pitch but veteran skipper Charlton Lamb said "It will probably get worse.I want a minimum of 5 an over."

Well things did get worse as Nomads slumped to 98-5 despite 36 from Jeremy Lascelles and at the drinks interval at 20 overs the total was well under 4 an over.

However after a short flurry from Greg Jones the tempo accelerated as Keith Alexander despatched the bowling, both serious and cafeteria, to all sections of the ground. During this merry mayhem Karl Thorns, usually a powerful stroke maker himself, was happy to give the strike to Keith as they added 103 for the 6th wicket of which he contributed 10%.

When Keith was out lbw he had hit a quickfire 94 and lifted Nomads total to respectability. A further 23 runs were added despite the President batting out the last over for a maiden against Leng the Follies¹ skipper and pick of their bowlers,8- 4-13-2.

After tea Thorns and Jones struck early removing three of the top four cheaply. A fantastic throw in removed the fourth wicket which had added some 40 runs. Blumberg after an expensive first over then accounted for danger man Leng so Follies innings was deep in the pig swill. Blumberg took two more so that the home side were down and out at 8-77. However the last three batsmen then added 58 runs to finish all out on 135 some 89 runs short. In view of the tail's flurry it was thus doubly important we had captured the wickets of Leng and Perry when we did.

Karl Thorns finished with 6-2-7-2 and Blumberg's flighted filth returned 8-0-43-4.
