Sajjad Shawl Hat Trick Serves Up Nomads Victory

Nomads were victorious in a low scoring game at Angelo Economou's pretty ground Follies Farm near Chiddingfold, Surrey. Basked in glorious sunshine and boasting a strong XI Nomads were indebted to an outstanding bowling performance from Sajjad Shawl who has been in sparkling form with the ball so far this season.

After Tom Brockton won the toss and inserted the home side on a wicket that had a lush covering of grass, Shawl went to work with a hat-trick in the 5th over reducing Follies Farm's batting line up to tatters. Skipper David Leng did try to counter-attack and smote Tony Alderton over mid wicket for a huge maximum. However Alderton got his man as Leng picked out Shawl at point with a fierce cut. Follies were in real trouble and their woes continued with an impressive spell from Andrew Smith who went for just 14 from his 8 overs and claimed 2 wickets including the scalp of Charlie Dickins. Mike Plant also took 2 wickets and Shawl returned in the 30th over to mop up the tail and claimed a well deserved 5 wicket haul. Nomads dismissing Follies Farm for a paltry 120.

After a sumptuous tea Kie Farrell and Keith Alexander opened up for Nomads, but alas Alexander was dismissed dragging on a full ball for just 6. Andy "Mighty Mouse" Hill and Farrell then forged a good partnership and looked to be taking Nomads to a comfortable victory. However wickets started to tumble, with Farrell dismissed for 20, Nathan Lamb for a bright and breezy 14 and then man of the moment Shawl gone for a duck. In two appearances at Follies Farm Shawl has taken 7-29 in 16 overs, but is yet to score a run!

Charlie Peerless was also dismissed cheaply and Nomads were now 5 down, but needing only 25 to bring up a victory. This was achieved by Andy Hill (43 not out) and the in-form Mike Plant who knocked off the remaining total with no further alarms. David Leng bowled impressively for Follies but his efforts were ultimately to be in vain as Nomads ran out winners by the comfortable enough margin of 5 wickets.

An early finish resulted in an extended post match drinks session  in the early evening sunshine.
