   Nomads' Generosity Knows no bounds

Nomads lost an entertaining game at Follies Farm through a mix of injudicious shots, fine FFOS catching, a mad run out, a missing player and the worst spell of bowling by the President yet observed.

Despite a dodgy looking pitch Charlton Lamb having won the toss elected to bat, a decision no doubt influenced by the absence of Chris Page and Russ Mann.

Jeremy Lascelles and Andy Hill raced along at the start punishing both short balls and half volleys with relish. Then Jeremy Lascelles was caught by fly slip making a great catch, a fielder placed there for Andy Hill!. Andy followed shortly, receiving a lifting snorter.   Woolhouse drove airily at a ball that stopped a bit and Jamie Lane committed suicide with an uncharacteristic swish at a leg inclined ball that bounced off his pads onto the wicket. Debutant Nic Ward was batting well having hit a huge six when his pal, debutant David Buist, ran him out for 25,74-5 and no sign of Chris Page.

David Buist somewhat redeemed himself by top scoring with a robust 34 and the tail took the total up to 158, skipper Lamb in fine form, ending on 19 not out.

After a fine tea and taste of Old Spots ham Nomads with one bowler/fielder short opened with Woolhouse at one end and Blumberg at the other.   Last year Blumberg's flighted filfth accounted for four of FFOS, sadly not to be repeated this time round. Although two early wickets fell Blumberg could not find a length and Woolhouse steadily lost his. Lane replaced Blumberg and bowled the belligerent Perry who had struck 34 quickly. Englehart maintained the momentum with many a huge blow and with Williams took the score to 117 whereupon Lamb deceived Williams and caught and bowled him.

Wickets now tumbled, one more to Lane and two more to Lamb and a couple of catches went down. Blumberg was reintroduced in the absence of any other bowlers and again bowled dross. As a result Saxell and Lamont put on 31 for the 8th wicket, not without some luck, feasting on the long hops fed to them. FFOS won with 11.1 overs to go with 3 wickets in tact.

Undoubtedly the absence of an eleventh fielder made a significant difference and also the fact that the same person has been our most prolific wicket taker to date in 2008. Nevertheless one hopes never to see such poor bowling again from the President! A good note was the presence of two young debutants David Buist and Nick Warde, hopefully much more from them less the run out in future matches. And our apologies to twelfer Debbie Curtis who could have played!
