Nomads Napundered
Nomads made a very enjoyable first vist to Dauntsey's School to play Wiltshire Queries last Sunday. Nomads in fact arrived with 13 players a product of the club's resources when faced with a delinquent match manager who had failed to raise aside! Leaving out the Rajasthan's opening bowler we lost the toss and opened up with Karl Thorns acheing from a productive league outing the day before and impressive Vinod Chauria.Sam informed the skipper that he had half a dozen opening batsmen lined up and raring to go.Well none of looked comfortable against Thorns and Chauria and were soon 40-3.
Shankey replaced the aching Thorns(6-2-20-2) and steadily Queries rebuilt the innings only to lose two more wickets to Shankey.. Sam and the Devises overseas star Sri Lankan Napunda added some thirty runs whereupon Blumberg induced him to miss a straight slow long hop..oh dear! and then next ball Carman was dropped.
The slow long hop had mesmerised the skipper who had the same ball smashed to the boundary by Napunda several times and the innings momentum changed. Despite the return of Chauria and Shankey, Napunda and Carman smote the bowling all over the ground adding 77 in the last 8 overs before the declaration.Carman enjoyed another life but Napunda weilding a railway sleeper of a bat was awesome.
In reply Nomads innings contained a series of somewhat 'gifted' wickets, the openers out for 19 and then having hit a six Chauria was caught , 50-3. Thorns and Harish now built what looked to be a basis of a match winning stand when having added 64 runs Harish swung airily once too often,114-4. The bowling was not too taxing Napunda excepted yet Nomads well on track still contrived to get out,.Andy Hills was bowled off his pads and then Karl 'yorked himself having taken 10 runs off Napunda that over.
Dawood swung merrily and Lamb and Williams added a few more but by the time the skipper arrived at the crease there were 20 runs required to win and 29 balls to go.
Well they got half way there adding 10 and the match was drawn.
Both sides repaired to the Stage Coach Inn outside the school and Nomads eventually found their way home via Stone Henge with the rain pouring all the way back.
