Golden Oldies Save Nomads Blushes
Dropped catches(4) allowed Marlow Park's Weston (105) and Ellis(51) to amass a third wicket stand of 174 which dominated the day's play after two early wickets by Karl Thorns. Oliver Croom-Jonson bowled well without reward, a victim of several dropped catches. Once Centurion Weston had been bowled by Blumberg,227-4, Marlow collapsed dramatically to Middleton Mann, 260 all out.
After a very good tea Nomads set off after this total with a flurry of boundaries with Jeremy Lascelles in dashing good form so that 62 was on the board in 8 overs when Lane edged on. As we neared 100 Thorns was bowled and then Lascelles was lbw 5 runs later and a collapse ensued removing all our front line batsmen,116-6.
Seeing veterans Lamb and Croomers at the crease Marlow made the choice of trying to blast us out rather than entice us with a distant prospect of victory. However the experience of the 'old timers' was too good for them and with the belated entry of some cafeteria bowling some 79 runs were added before the close.
This was Nomads first visit to Marlow Park which is situated in a very attractive public park beside the river Thames with quite a smattering of spectators.
Naturally Nomads took their time before leaving this pleasant spot apologizing for their over rate which was earlier described as dire.
