Hooper and While add 149
On a beautiful summer's day at the picturesque ground of Middleton Stoney Nomads mauled a depleted home attack and declared early after 36 overs.Tony Hooper completed a fluent century and James While bludgeoned his way to 81, both batsmen being very kind to 11 years old spinner Simpson. These two and 'Doc' Bell precisely picked out skipper Wordsworth to hole out to on the wide long on boundary so he snapped up three catches and a late wicket in Nomads innings.
After a magnificent tea the home side's innings started a bit late yet some 42 overs were bowled before George Lamb and Peter Wordsworth saw out an honorable draw after some useful knocks from Vadivale,Church and A Lamb. Nomads used seven bowlers but not James While who naturally felt a victory was missed through the exclusion of his bowling prowess.
Following play there was a barbeque to assist the consumption of ale before Nomads reluctantly set forth back to London. Daryn Williams had flown from Bahrain to play and his greater family came in support and cheered his wicket.he was desperate for some company on the journey back to Hampstead Garden suburb yet both Fellows-Smith(Charles and Dad) plus Charlton Lamb prefered the excitement of the Hon Sec's driving and all arrived home safely.
Match Manager Simon Collins had done a thorough job on this fixture but had collected a side worthy of a Hurlingham or Romany. It was a shame Middleton were effected by family holiday drop outs as this was otherwise a splendid day out in the country and will surely prove a popular fixture in future years. Many thanks to Middleton Stoney for their excellent hospitality.
