Nomads bowlers defend modest total The original declaration match ready to start at 1pm with twenty overs after 6.15pm was scuppered by heavy rain and the covers rapidly put on the pitch. however the rain relented and so tea was taken early and a 32/32 limited over match agreed. Nomads had won the original toss and so batted first. Marcus Budgen and Kie Farrell opened and Marcus short of match practice soon cut a Mathew Burton long hop straight to point for a disappointing duck. Tom Liversidge joined Kie ad these two added almost fifty runs against some decent bowling whereupon Kie somewhat irritated by our umpire urging him to score quicker miscued a big drive and was caught for 23. The skipper strode out with purpose but was soon trapped lbw. George Dabby playing his second Nomads game joined Tom and these two added 67 accelerating the run rate. Had these two continued a much bigger total may have been achieved but both were caught Tom for a most valuable seventy and George for 27. in between mighy hitter Sajjad shawl miscued Tim Scneider to his brother. Nomads were 133-6 and running out of overs. Mark Oppe nudged while Chris Page played some big boundary shots taking the score to 156 before falling lbw to James Schneider. Seven balls later Stan and Mark had added just two more so Nomads finished on 158. Gaieties made a slow start with both Wooliscroft and Shawl bowling well reaching but 25 runs off ten overs for the loss of resolute opener Crowe caught Mark Oppe off Shawl. Crowe had scored heavily off Nomads in previous years. The two Schnieder brothers took the score to 53 when Tim miscued to Sajjad at mid off. After an imperious first ball cover drive for four Ingrams was soon to fall mishitting Chris Page to George Dabby on the mid wicket boundary,73-3.Dabby took his second wicket when he bowled Hall,91-4 off 20 overs. Wickets fell regularly but skipper James Schneider continued to attack at the other end so much so that despite Andy Smith bowling both Trapido and Burton Gaieties required 19 to win off the last two overs. When James Schneider hit a six Gaieties hopes were raised but despite his best endeavours he was unable to repeat the shot taking only one more run off the over from Andy Smith. Marcus Budgen bowled the last over with most Nomads fielders on the boundary. Schneider could only manage a two and a single and the rest were dot balls. Nomads had won a most exciting and close game. James Schneider finished on 72 not out. |
