A daft day for Nomads
Nomads dropped 13 catches off Ben Ellis together with some flying misses off Joe Medlin's opening burst. Costly took advantge of this incompetence to notch a century allowing Downs to declare at 243-3 off 47.3 overs. Ellis had bowled 14 overs for 31 and Sajjad Shawl 11 for 32 the rest went for 182 at 9 an over!
Nomads replied at pace as youngsters Massey and Palmer plundered the Downs bowling. Then Cheltenham College schoolboy Palmer miscued a pull and the middle order collapsed followed by Massey for a firey 76. Andy Smith, Joe Medlin and Saurabh Wahi all hit 20s, indeed the latter two added 27 for the last wicket when with a draw in sight Saurabh miscued a mighty blow and was caught. Nomads had somewhat carelessly lost by 22 runs. This was not the most sensible of batting orders and several of the dismissals had little to do with the quality of the bowling.
Father of young James Palmer,Gary, batting coach supremo, was unimpressed and yet the skipper Andy Stokes had a huge smile which just grew larger as the beer went down a treat for several hours post defeat.
