A Qureshi too many
It was very worthy of our hosts that cricket was played at all on this very damp Sunday. Nomads were short of a player so M & B lent us a youngster making us ten. Apart from Surridge and Rezko who hung arouns on a difficult pitch no one reached double figures.Almost half Nomads total was made up of extras with the wicket keeper struggling .Nomads total of a mere 91 looked very poor but turned out to be a testing total.
After tea Surridge and Blumberg quickly reduced Maidenhead & Bray to 30-5 with accurate bowling on a spiteful pitch. Then it began to drizzle and then drizzle turn into persistant light rain. Normally the game would have been abandoned but with the top five batsmen already out Nomads agreed to continue especially in view of the fact that Maidenhead & Bray had agrred to play at all.
However with the ball increasingly taking on the appearance of a wet bar of soap and the number six batsmen batting well the game slipped away from Nomads. Nomads did capture two more wickets and our lent youngster bowled tidily but F Qureshi's powerful innings swung the match decisively M & B's way.
A very wet and bedraggled Nomads side waled off wondering why we had lost the match let alone persisted in the pouring rain. A shower and a few beers later spirits were restored.
