Doc' Bell Blast spurs Nomads to victory

Nomads eventually found Calthorpe Crouch End and indeed had thirteen players eventually on site. However one who was late was Ollie Croom Johnson( he found another Park Road N8 in mitigation). He nearly had his head knocked off by a fearsome aerial cut off Richard Woolhouse's wayward bowling and was still shell shocked when a gentler followed shortly afterwards. Both Richard and George Joseph found their radar lacking so that by the time Ollie and Rob Leachman relieved them there were 77 runs on the board off 10 overs.

The run feast stopped with these two bowling until Rob went in the fetlock in his third over and lost his length. This brought Daryn Williams into the attack-another late arrival-and he and Croomers changed the game. Once the first wicket fell there was regular success for these two who ended up with 4 a piece. Croomers was unlucky not to have had several more and suffered somewhat from the veteran and immobile fielding. Calthorpe declared at 223-8 off 45 overs. It was noted that second equal top scorer was byes and Keith Alexander is a Calthorpe member!!!

Doc Bell and Azha set up about the bowling with relish until Azhar attempted to hit a straight slow long hop into North Middlesex CC next door and missed some hours too early with his shot, Keith Alexander joined Doc and these merrily added over a hundred. Yet with the game seeming to be won overwhelmingly Nomads staged a collapse including Charlton Lamb being bowled for a duck by a classical violinist. the collapse also claimed Doc on 88, a disappointed Medic indeed.

However after a dodgy start Richard Woolhouse found the middle of his bat to great effect and so Nomads won by 4 wickets with over 5 overs to go.

In view of the weather we were lucky to enjoy a game without rain and despite the cold showers most Nomads stayed to feast upon an excellent curry with which to celebrate victory.
