Nomads underwhelm in drawn contest

Bill Burke won the toss for Old Vics and started well before Page and Vithlani took four wickets and Fieldin a fith leaving Old Vics struggling at 141-5. Somewhat miraculously Varia kept Ilija Krunic company in a stand worth 53 runs  before Suraj took a good catch off Page,194-6 and Page took another at 203.Yet by the time Bill declared Varia had reached 37 not out and Roger Gravett a lusty 10. 

After a good tea Nomads had a possible 34 overs and so need to get on with it.Given the batting resources this target seemed feasible. Old Vics opening bowler Khan asked to swap ends and so Roger Gravett was called upon to bowl an over. This over proved fortuitous for Od Vics as first   Dom Ramjag miscued  a cut to be caught and bowled and then first ball, young Billal Patel was lbw for a duck.Suraj was soon bowled by Khan so Nomads innings was somewhat in tatters.

Jon Thornton joined Andy Stokes and these two added 60 before Jon was  trapped lbw by Turner. Andy Stokes passed fifty and seemed set for a possible ton when he was bowled by Gravett. Nomads were now in save the game mood except for Raymond Lashwayo  who aimed an almighty slog only to be bowled by Rehman. Nigel Kees joined  Jeremy Lascelles and the two veterans carefully steered Nomads to safety and a draw.

Roger Gravett with his slow variations ended with the respectable figures of 3-54 off 15 overs. 

Nomads lingered long wondering what might have been and the two skippers negotiated a shared fee for the umpire they had both booked independently!
