Nomads make heavy weather of chasing modest target

Crouch End won the toss and elected to bat first.Somewhat miracuosly a short time after the scheduled start we were ten Nomads on the field and very soon 11. Oliver Croom-Johnson and Jemile Al Darraji opened the bowling and soon wickets were tumbling, the first somewhat surprisingly a hard hit gulley catch to the President which in view of  the previous weeks' debacle at Windsor Great Park brought a great sigh of relief from the bowler amidst general Nomads astonishment.

Jemile soon bowled number 3 whereupon a fifty run stand was made before Gregory bowled Dindyal and Evans-Gordon removed his partner, the somewhat lucky opener Simon Tanner. Gregory had number 5 well caught by Ross Ormiston at point and Alastair removed Islam cheaply but only after he hit a six first. Unable to restrain himslef after the fielder was put on the boundary he attempted a second successive six and was well caught by Jemile, a somewhat clueless dismissal! At 110-6 Nomads were thinking of an early tea but Crouch End youngster S Hassan smote mightly hitting three sixes and many fours taking a particular liking to Ross Ormiston's bowling.

Meanwhile Peter Sumner removed number 8 and 9 and when Jemile returned his quckly had Hassan caught behind Butler bowled for a duck.Crouch End had posted a respectable 171.

After an excellent tea Jamie Lane and Keith Alexander opened the innings and all was going well until Keith ran himself needlessly out. He was to set a precent as the lame Jam Lawrence was run out by his 'runner' and Andy Gregory failed to regain his ground in time after amighty blow to the off was well fielded. Nomads made steady progress despite the failing light with chasing down the required total but kept losing wickets.

Jamie Lane in fine form slog swept tp leg only for a young square leg to take a terrific ctch,Ross Ormiston had just smote two mighty pulls to leg when athird shaort ball kept low and castled him, likewise Jemile who had played been playing a  disciplined subdued  innings had hit a superb straight bundary when he too subcumbed to a low bouncing ball.

It was left to the no nonsense slogging of Alastair Evans-Gordon who added 23 for the eight and ninth wickets with assistance from Peter Sumner and Oliver Croom-Johnson who brought victory home with just one over to spare ! Phew!

Some hours later as the club house prepared itself for private party several senior Nomads including scorer Bil Rodwell left for home.
