Nomads conquer despite Precipitation

This was another so called summer's day when we were lucky to get a game in. For much of the first innings there was  a steady soft drizzle which made bowling fairly difficult and fielding unpleasant. The evening brightened up after a good tea had been enjoyed by both teams but it was good fortune that the game ended early with a Nomads win as soon afterwards the heavens opened.

Abinger won the toss and elected to bat.Brockton struggling with the wet downhill run up nevertheless removed opener Churchly, well caught by Suraj Vithlani at second slip. Williams joined Waite and these two added 36 runs with some big hits before Chris Page bamboozled them both and Charlie Dickins took the catches. Abinger now suffered a collapse as a further three wickets fell cheaply as a mere nine runs were added,64-6 in the 13th over.

However Lewis counter attacked and with veteran partner Colbrook added a further 57 runs before the latter was bowled by Peter Sumner. Sumner then took three more wickets including Lewis(43) to finish with the useful figures of 4-16 off 5.2 overs.

Nomads opened with Rupert Style and Suraj Vithiani which produced a serious mismatch in calling technique with many an easy run turned down. Both batsmen seemed to be enjoying themselves and heading for a big score only to get carried away and out to extravagant and unecessary shots, 47-2,10 overs. Charlie Williams elevated to assist an early departure played no shot and was adjudged lbw giving Evelyn who was trundling away with his flighted 'chinamen' his third wicket. The young Goldsmith  who did not bat but fielded as sub for us at the start of the game  bowled Alan Newman for 10, 78-4,15 overs.

Jemile Al-Darraji, all poise and pose, together with his contrasting former veteran pupil Richard Fanthorpe, offside clubber and solid swish to leg, then added 67 runs in under 13 overs to give Nomads a resounding win by 6 wickets with 13 overs to spare.

Nomads enjoyed a good number of pints after the game watching the down pour from the warmth of the pavilion. The President who had taken his first Nomads catch of the season celebrated with a jug! Some members are still recovering from the shock, both the catch and the jug!
