Cooper's century unrewarded with victory

Nomads' only Saturday match in June was on the same day as some soccer match between England and Paraguay so we were more than grateful for Shamsheer Singh's offer of several Jaipur Colts.  Indeed so keen were they to play that Richard Woolhouse and the Hon Sec were excused. Charlton Lamb won the toss and Nomads batted first. Several wickets fell as the Colts struggled to come to terms   with a soft slow English pitch and veteran flighted fiflth. Yet what was unusual for the youngsters was meat and drink to veteran Nick Cooper who notched up a ton before retiring hurt(or rather exhausted). Nomads declared at 250-7/8 at tea time.

Although employing eight bowlers Nomads were unable to prise out the last pair who held out for a draw. However the main resistance had come from Whitfield and Gathercole in the middle order.

The Jaipur contingent came a serious cropper later on as no one had bothered to check on trains leaving Gomshall that evening. Well they missed the 8.04 and the next was 11.37.. they reached Greenford at 2.30am next morning. Shamsher Singh remarked it was all part of their educational experience!
