Tour Costa Blanca Spain 28/10-2/11/04
A Nomads party of 18 enjoyed success both on the field and off staying at Real Campoamor and Albir Gardens. Most unfortunately the rain in Spain on Monday was focused on The Columbus Oval Albir while all around was sunny, cutting short a run feast and a probable clean sweep of 4 victories.
It was a shame that Sporting Alfas played their 1st XI on Saturday against Arden Taverners and their 2nd XI against Nomads on Sunday as an even contest would have made for better cricket.
With the exception of the Benidorm Barmies everyone enjoyed the splendid facilities at Campoamor and look forward to a further visit. A failure to play Sherry with due care and attention nearly caused us grief on Saturday before Taylor, Al-Darraji & Cooke pulled the game round. Several Nomads played golf there too.
Jemile hit a big ton against a disappointingly very weak Alfas Sunday side and Aussies Tolputt & Crummy smashed 170 in 15 overs off the Forty Club of Spain before rain washed out the match although the sun shone bright all around.
There were three debutants-Bob Cooke (who previously had played with Cricket World XI in Corfu), Rupert Taylor who has his own ground at Cartama near Malaga and Justin Stone all of whom we hope to see again soon........ and one rotund Nomad re-found true love at the Benidorm Crematorium on Tuesday so there's a definite 'returnee' for you.
Jemile Al-Darraji scored most with 257(3-1-257-150-128.50),followed by Crummy 191,while 114,Tolputt 113 & Sutherland 100.
Charles Fellows-Smith took 6 wickets (24-6-66-6) followed by Al-Darraji 5, Brookes 3, Barter, Blumberg, Cooke, Stone and Taylor 2, Crummy & Tolputt 1.

Gordon Leach struggled at times as a scorer and he did this day just to keep up with the carnage. Most observers and indeed Anthony Crummy think Steve Toputt hit a ton and Anthony was in the fifties. and for those who know neither, Toputt is built like a tank about 5ft 10 ins and Anthony Crummy is much taller 6 foot 2 ins and slim. Tolputt punched the ball with terrible power while Crummy elegantly caressed the ball towards the boundary. To dear old Gordon they were all the same, two Aussies murdering the bowling!
The party was made up of the following:Anthony Crummy & Andrea Crummy, V Gavin & Ms Helen Cooper, J Hyams, J Al-Darraji, D Macleod(Umpire), J Stone, S Barter, K Sutherland, M Blumberg, S Tolputt, C Fellows-Smith, R Cooke & CB, A Lee wkt, R Taylor, J While, E Brookes.
March 2004 Spain Tour
Michael Blumberg presents Steve Tolputt with a placque commemorating the triple century he scored against Javea CC four years before, allegedly the highest individual score ever on Continental Europe and certainly Spain and reported in Wisden's Almanack.
A tiring tour for Jack
