Christian Muñoz century takes Forty Club to convincing win
Nomads won the toss and batted only to lose both openers cheaply. the innings was rebuilt by Jemile,Kie and Tom but having retrenched Nomads were unable to finish with a flourish so that the declaration was generous indeed. In recent years the so called Forty Club has recruited several youngsters to make up the eleven and on this occassion they were all pretty good. If Nomads were to restrain this batting line up, well accustomed to the bouncy synthetic pitch, the bowlers had to bowl well and take early wickets.
In the event Nomads bowlers did neither. Docker and Al-Darraji often beat the bat but bowled too many loose balls which were punished. Nomads fielding did not help with some dropped catches. Muñoz and Panchal continued to dominate the bowling until Panchal was run out. Muñoz moved onto a fine century and The Forty Club had won by 8 wickets with a host of overs remaining.

Delayed start dampens Nomads will to compete
Nomads arrived in good order apart from Jemile who had been lead astray by Kevin Laundon the evening before. The rain was pouring down so most of the visitors presumed they would be joining Bill Rodwell and Christine Walker watching Six Nations Rugby. However the locals asserted the rain would stop at 1.30pm and play begin by 3pm. This confident statement was met with some derision and disbelief by the visitors who meanwhile tucked into some more beers. As predicted the rain did stop at 1.30pm and the umpires considered the ground and pitch safe for play so the game started about 3pm something which Nomads seemed mentally unprepared for.
Alfas won the toss and batted. From the outset they swung their bats to great effect as Nomads bowling admittedly struggling with a wet ball and damp run ups presented an innocuous fare. Phil Pennick retired hurt with a back strain on 27 then Brooks,Alger and Crompton hit fifties before retiring out. Nomads' one success came with Steve Docker removing Faran Afzal caught by 'keeper Kevin Smith. Alfas reached 243 off 30 overs. Only skipper Brockton returned respectable figures the rest going for 7,8,9,10 and 12 an over.
After a short but sumptuous tea Nomads replied initially with purpose only for Reeve to be caught behind at 25 and then Johnson was bowled next over. Two more runs were scored before Nomads imploded as Farrell,Style and Hussey were out.Docker and Liversidge then added 24 as the required run rate rocketed.Steve Docker fell for 9 whereupon skipper Brockton and Liversidge added a further 55 runs giving Sporting Alfas an overwhelming victory by 147 runs.
Unfortunately Tom Liversidge was left stranded on 47 not out at the wrong end as the final balls were bowled.

Nomads' bowlers fail to master young Sporting Alfas' young batsmen
Nomads arrived in good order with Jemile sober. The skipper won the toss, elected to bat and opened with Jemile. These two added 139 before Brockers was caught off Smith another fifty runs were added whereupon Tom Liversidge was bowled for 20. After a further 20 runs were scored Jemile took a ball in the 'goolies' and retired hurt to much mirth from his team mates. This was unfortunate as Ranjit Latchman and Mike Weir failed to make merry in the last overs despite ever mightier but vain whirls of the bat by Mike. Nevertheless 242 was a decent score probably 20 below par.
After another great tea Nomads opened up with Docker and Reeve. However a confident young Tyler Brown smote them about the field before being caught by Brockton at short mid wicket off a full toss from Nigel Hussey with the score at 51.Jamie Roper joined veteran Geoff Evans to add 69 before John Hardy bowled Evans. Roper continued on his merry way before falling to the guile of Jemile's slows and Abdul soon followed via an excellent slip catch by veteran Ranjit Latchman off John Hardy. This catch was to be one of two taken despite many offerings. There was no luck for Irishman Byrne who was bowled by the returning Docker but an assured young Kieran Perman and Bashrat Ali put on the remaining 31 runs with 5 balls to go. So Nomads had now lost three in a row.

Two Toms take Nomads close but not close enough
A time game was agreed with Nomads playing 12 but batting 11. When Brockers won the toss and inserted Sporting Alfas there was the general murmur amongst the visitors that at least we can draw this one.
In the event Nomads bowlers had a better day taking seven wickets with Oliver Croom-Johnson capturing three. Nevertheless Alfas still posted 240 off 44 overs before the declaration.
After tea Nomads opened with Rupert Style and Bill Johnson who put on 42 by the 7th over whereupon Rupert was bowled by Ravi Panchal. Forty minutes and another 11 overs later and Nomads had lost a further five wickets for the addition of 35 runs.
Skipper Tom Brockton now joined young Tom Liversidge and these two added some 118 runs taking nomads within stricking distance of their winning target. First Brockton was bowled then a few runs later and young tom was gone to a good catch by Ravi Panchal off Braithwaite. Steve docker and Kevin smith followed with the addition of a mere seven runs.Smith's dismissal in what was a time game was abject tapping the game's last delivery straight into first slips waiting hands. Ugh! Nomads had now lost 4 matches on the trot.

Nomads bowlers suffer and middle order batsmen fail
The original plan was to have Jemile, young Tom and Bill Johnson playing in this match but somehow that did not happen and so the remaining nine Nomads players plus electronic scorer Nigel Green took on ten from Sporting Alfas. A 34/34 over game was agreed with no bowling restrictions.
Nomads won the toss and inserted Alfas. Tyler Brown with increasing confidence smote sixty odd and put on with veteran nudger McInstry 110 before both were retired. This was no relief for Nomads bowlers as Panchal and Singh rattled up another hundred runs before being 'called in' by skipper Geoff Evans.Thankfully veterans Braithwaite and Wambbek batted with greater circumspection so Sporting Alfas had posted a useful 246 off 34 overs without losing a wicket to Nomads who again dropped a hatful of wickets. Stu Reeve recorded a rare century with the ball
The excellent tea had good effect on Nomads openers who added a brisk 72 whereupon Mike Weir who had hit a robust fifty retired to catch a bus to the airport. Stu Reeve joined Ranjit Latchman and these two seemed to be cruising towards Nomads' first win when he drove carelessly at a Wambeek slow and was caught. Soon after Ranjit Latchman was out to a wonderful catch by the late arriving Roper at short square leg. Ranjit had hit this off the middle angled downwards off a wayward Wambeek full toss!
The rest of the batsmen fell in quick succession for the addition of 16 runs. A boundary four from the President brought forth some cheering but there was little to commend with yet another disappointing Nomads batting performance. Nevertheless the merriment in the bar afterwards exemplified the general enjoyment of the tour for which Nomads are ever grateful to Sporting Alfas CC.
