MATCH 1 NOMADS CC v Sporting Alfas Midweek XI March 13th 2009, 12.30pm,Woodbridge Oval AlbirL'Alfas Del Pi Spain -40 overs each innings ,8 overs max per bowler Poor Practice for Matches to come It was unfortunate that Nomads lost the toss as few of our batsmen had much practise which is the real purpose of the Friday game, especially so with a large party. While and Whitworth bowled well removing three for 31. Cooper and Evans added 58 before falling to the spin of Watson and Blumberg. The innings then collapsed to Blumberg and Foster finishing on a modest 125 off 36 overs Ranjit and Vince Gavin opened and added 54 before Vince was out for 26. In strode James While who bludgeoned the attack for a quick 42 while Ranjit completed an accomplished fifty so Nomads won just before drinks. Result: Nomads won by 9 wickets Toss: Sporting Alfas Umpires: Brian Pitts & others Scorer: Various Debut(s):Y Ramzan,G Whitworth,C Watson,P Kelly,S Foster.

MATCH 2 NOMADS CC v Sporting Alfas 1st XI Saturday March 14th 2009, 12.30pm, Woodbridge Oval Albir L'Alfas Del Pi Spain-40 overs each innings ,8 overs max per bowler. Nomads thrashed again on Saturday S porting Alfas first team enjoyed a comfortable win over a lack lustre Nomads side. Alfas invited the Nomads to bat and after 3 overs thought they were in for a long and tiresome afternoon as the openers had scored 23. Then the bowlers found the right line and length and wickets fell helped by an uncharacteristic waft from prolific run scorer James While, only Michael Thewlis sttod firm hitting a creditable 72 before being caught off the bowling of Graham Howe in the last over.Earlier Ranjit had threatened a big innings but inexplicably played back and was palpably lbw. Spencer and Ali opened the innings for Alfas and when Ali was caught for 49 the Nomads had all but given up as the home side looked in control scoring at 7+ an over. Muñoz joined Spencer in the middle and the two looked as though they were going to finish the job until Muñoz was bowled by Ramzan with a sharp off cutter with only 5 needed. Alfas Veteran G Howe kept out some skiddy cutters from Ramzan to finish the game with Spencer who carried his bat for 78. On paper this was a strong Nomads top order but a combination of good bowling and the Benidorm effect reduced Nomads innings to tatters and the fielding was indifferent as well, a very disappointing performance indeed. The Alfas scribe described this eleven as a stronger than usual. Heaven forbid! This was pitiful. Where were you Wakers, Tolputt, Darraji, Crummy, Milton and Srikanth? MATCH 3 NOMADS CC v Sporting Alfas Sunday XI Sunday March 15th 2009, 12.30pm, Woodbridge Oval Albir L'Alfas Del Pi Spain-40 overs each innings ,8 overs max per bowler. Nomads batting fails after good performance in the field.
This was a much better first half performance by Nomads let down by a rotten second half.Despite Thewlis feeling too unwell to bowl and Ranjit too unwell to play this side should have done much much better. Pennick and Compton made a solid opening stand of 130 not without chances, indeed Compton was dropped twice in one over early on.However the batsmen were made to fight for their runs and with the introduction of spin wickets steadily fell so much so Thewlis was induced to bowl two overs and captured the dangerous Wasim for a duck. That achieved he declined to continue. The swap of gloves for spin bowling by Sialvi was productive with him a great catch in the deep and three wickets but this helped our extras total reach 27 by the end of the innings with Sporting Alfas on 220-8. Nomads reply was most disppointing. Only opener Zia Sialvi and Simon Barter put together innings against an attack that was hardly frightening. Lewis went for 14 in his second over and was taken off. Pennick having taken a wicket was hit for 13 off an over and he took himself off. Cowley bowled tightly to finish with 2-19 including Sialvi who managed to hip the ball onto his wicket having misjudged a leg side long hop pull. The main wicket takers were Ben Mariner 3-41 and young Rofoe 3-14. Even the normally obdurate not out specialist Blumberg played on! So Nomads succumbed to a paltry total of 123 our lowest ever sunday score at Alfas, 78 of which were hit in boundaries. MATCH 4 NOMADS CC v Forty Club of Spain Monday March 16th 2009, 12.30pm, Woodbridge Oval Albir L'Alfas Del Pi Spain-Time game Ramzan fourfer and Ranjit ton bring overwhelming win A long spell from Whitworth and a devastating short one from Yusuf Ramzan ruined the innings of the Forty Club which was rescued by a robust knock from Kevin Laundon so much so that Geoff Evans declared the innings after 39 overs with Kevin still 11 short of his ton . Zeeshan and Ranjit hit an opening stand of 150 in quick time before Zeeshan was stumped. Ranjit went to complete a stylish ton while Adam Taylor hit some mighty boundaries bringing Nomads an overwhelming victory Result:
