A Load of runs on modified ground
This was a curious match in that the Silverstone Ball had been relocated at one end of the cricket ground as opposed the South Front as usuall. The Marque and all else was supposed to be removed by 11.00am but it was not. So the match proceded with bowling being from the Stowe House end throughout and the batsmen changing ends..
A car load of Nomads arrived late which since we lost the toss meant we took the field several short to start with and Stowe's openers took full advantage of this, in particular, of Matt Burton's bowling. Stowe's innings momentum was restricted by our slow bowlers but despite losing wickets they strill declared at the formidable score of 347-7 off 55.1 overs.
Nomads reply was equally fluent as Sunil Patel stroked a swift fifty and Wicky Abbas 40 so the innings was on target until Jeremy Lascelles and Adam Leyland became bogged down which was unfortunate as there was much batting to come. Joe Ireland with assistance from a brisk cameo from Kiran Patel added 47 end then with an obdurate Blumberg another 36 to reach 270-9. With John Rezco joining Joe the last pair added a further 47 to close at 317 some 31 short.
664 runs in the day despite the strange boundary shape was pretty good day's cricket and suitably celebrated at the Chackmore pub afterwards.
