Match Abandoned on Nomads return to UCS
On Monday Nomads were reduced through measles and many other distractions from 14 to 7. We picked up two more from the generous opposition who having won the toss invited us to bat or rather enquired what we would like to do.
Under a threatening cloudy sky Charles Peerless and guest Tony McGowan put on 61 quickly before Charlie played all round a straight slower ball. Run machine single barrel Brockers joined McGowan and the score advanced to 80 before McGowan was bowled.
Top scorer in his previous two matches James Smith joined Brockton and these two added 55 at a steady rate. The appearance of flighted filfth from Bayliss so excited James that having smashed a 3 and a 4 he miscued and was caught. Ian MacKinnon hit a couple of boundaries before giving way to veteran Charlton Lamb.
Charlton & Brockers hit another 32 before the declaration came at 178 from 45 overs as the drizzle increased. Orford had bowled well taking 2-34 off 11 overs and Crofts bowled a mean spell of 5 runs off 5 overs when more of Bayliss may have brought on an earlier declaration. And so to tea.
Well we did delay the decision to abandon the match in case the weather changed but it did not, just got heavier and so on the huge club TV screen we watched England's remarkable win over Sri Lanka while the bar was kept busy.
