Nomads undone by young man's century
Nomads have not often played on Good Friday in UK but this year Easter was late so the opportunity availed itself to play several matches over the holiday weekend. On Good Friday at Chingford on a surprisingly dry pitch Nomads batsmen got a bit bogged down though some were out to some remarkable catches off loose balls.Jeremy Lascelles who was run out just as he was finding boundary hit form scored 58 and Andy Stokes looked good for a ton until he mis hit a Crego long hop to Nawaz Carder. Nevertheless 226 seemed a decent total to defend as we went into tea having declared after 44 overs.
Blake and Carder added 47 for the first wicket and the next fifty came quickly as Carder slogged and young Ironside stroked the ball frequently to the boundary. Adnan Kapadia accounted for Carder with the score on 104. The introduction of Chris Page then produced a flurry of wickets and with the run out of Edmonds Chingford were 164-7.
The match result then depended on whether the tail could keep the ever more confident Ironside company long enough. Matti proved a useful partner before also falling to Chris Page,198-7. Ironside then took a liking to Andy Marshall's bowling and Simmonds proved a resolute if shakey partner so Ironside completed his century and Chingford duly won by 3 wickets.
