Nomads Slaughtered & Wakers helped the opposition

Buxton Strugglers informed they would be one short on Fridy and asked if we had a player. Nomads replied that that would be possible and then they asked if we could lend them Paul Wakefield who used to be their 'pro' many moons ago. and had made this tour several times since. Nomads agreed.

Unfortunately on the morning of the match Vib Yadav had to drop out because his cousin was unwell and he had to take her to hospital. no one knew tht that Vib could drive avehicle let alone that one was available.! Vib's absence seriously weakened the Nomads batting and bowling. Paul Wakefield's son had expressed a wish to play but his enthusism had serioysly declined by the time the match began.

On paper Nomads had three leading bats and some experience lower down. With some Nomads arriving late the skipper Andy Stokes felt compelled to bat on winning the toss. Twenty five was added without hiccups whereupon Mike Blake holed out mis driving and one run later   the skipper was out for a duck mis hooking,26-2. Dominic Ramjag joine Joe Ireland and these two added 38 quite fluently before Joe miscued and was caught,64-3. A mini collpased insued with Raymond Lashwayo ans Sean Reilly out ,65-5.

Chris Page dug in and he and Dominic added 37 before Pagie feeling the need to get on with it was bowled,102-6. John Hardy,Tom Carmichael and Paul Fielding added 5 between them as Dominic at the out end reached 50 not out. Nomads had made  a paltry 122-9 off 40 overs.

A good tea did not inspire Nomads bowling and the Strugglers' openers Betts & Wakefield(lent by us) reached the winning target in the 25th over to win by 10 wickets.

There was not Nomads finest hour! Thankfully we had beaten them the year before.

Nevertheless following the Strugglers post tour ceremony a good number of Nomads made it into Summertown and imbibed for some hours at the local hostelry where were joined by Mrs Carmichael and Mrs Fielding who seemed to have had more a productive day visting Oxford. .
