Nomads bowlers fail the challenge

Nomads won the toss and batted first only to lose three early wickets,33-3. Gerard Soames(13) then Joined debutant Jonathan Sebanja helping to add 51,Page(6) then partnered Sebanja in a partnership of 55. Saikat Barua was inspred by Sebanja and he struck a quick 62 while another another 130 runs were scored. By the time of the declaration Jonathan Sebanja had hit 148* including 16 fours and 5 sixes a very fine innings on debut. He was deprived of his 150 because he hit the first ball of 37th over out of the ground, a more modest hit and he may have m,atched Andy hill's 171 on debut.

After tea Nomads opened with the guile and flight of Paul Fielding and Chris Page.Although the run rate was way below theat required Old Vis openers put on 51 for the 1st wicket whereupon Mike Blake was caught and bowled by Chris Page.Navaz was next out miscuing Page to Dominic Ramjag,74-2. the next three batstmen quickly fell to Page,84-6. Saikat Barua removed number 7 so Old vics were 97-7. At this point MacDonald-Barker was introduced but failed to baffle his former colleagues. Burrows and Newcombe now added 63 before Burrows was run out by Lashwayo.

Newcombe who had being batting for a long time became much more expansive and despite the introduction of the speedy seam of Sebanja and the skillful Fielding, he and Amir added a further 39 by the close with a flurry of powerful blows. Newcombe ended on 86 not out. Perhaps we should have bowled Page into the ground.

Tom Carmichael another debutant had a tidy match behind the stumps, three dismissals, no byes, just 2 leg byes.

Nomads lingered long at the Chingford CC bar.
