                                        Nomads utterly Outplayed

That a game was played at all was quite extraordinary.  The weather was foul and rain was falling all over the South East. Perchance the match was switched to South Woodford CC that morning  where miraculously it stopped raining for a few hours. Delhi Blues' full squad turned up so the President stood down to allow another DB to play. Because of the delayed start a 30/30 match was agreed.

Nomads had two senior players in Jemile Darraji and Keith Alexander plus the talented Druv Tahil and two DBs including an opening bowler. For the rest we debuted several youngsters who subsequently played again for Nomads and some of these were in their relevant  county youth squads.

In the past except for the second game in Delhi December 2002 we have put up a decent show against the DBs.  On this occasion the mismatch was terrible to behold.  The DB openers smashed and stroked the Nomads attack  all around the ground and this was a young fit fielding side!      Robin accomplished a fine century without blemish before retiring.  Jemile took our only wicket in a total of 218.

Nomads batting was swept aside by the young DBs  with no one reaching double figures in a mere 16 overs. Three boundaries were struck.

At least the Delhi Blues had a match for they were enduring a miserable wet tour. After the match both sides exchanged momentos and the DBs said some very complimentary words about Nomads which we hardly deserved. Thanks are due to South Woodford for staging the match at such short notice.

Nomads used to play South Woodford 1st XI on a Saturday.  Many moons ago having defeated them SW  persuaded our star bowler, the late Ossie Gooding, to join SW. He did for a few seasons, breaking the league record for wickets in the season and taking them to the league title.  It was good to see Ossie in the team  photographs on the club house wall.  Nomads could have done with Ossie in his prime this day!
