                                                                       Ramblers trounce Nomads

N omads suffered another large defeat at the hands of a young Ramblers side  who hung on to seven catches out of eight offered. Switched incomprehensibly from Upper Club to Agars Plough at short notice Nomads found themselves batting on an unprepared pitch with extravagant bounce.  Nomads struggled to lunch at 89-3 but satiated on a most fulsome spread lost both Latchman 52 and Thorns soon after. When Mark Costin succumbed after a vain full blooded attack, Nomads were reeling at 116-6. Charles Peerless then played a very good innings putting on 78 with Vivek Muralitharan who eventually was out for a very long patient duck.  Unfortunately Peerless was out shortly after and with Nomads one man short were all out for an inadequate 198.

For a brief period with Karl Thorns steaming in and Ramblers playing and missing Nomads vainly smelt some success. However although Karl bowled one opener he failed to take some more. NicK Fletcher bowled tidily and also beat the bat but without success. Karl then declared himself unfit and as our other listed opener bowler Vivek had already declared himslef unfit to bowl as we walked out to field this left Nomads somewhat short in the bowling department. Mark Costin spin and bumpers  took over from Thorns and Charlton Lamb fom Nick Fletcher but the runs flowed from this previously difficult track.

Eventually the skipper came on and Thorns was persuaded to bowl again off a short run up with the score already 150-1.Blumberg had immediate success bowling Leshelles for 74 but was then brutally savaged by Finch to bring an early finish to the match .

The catering was magnificent and the weather  very fine. It was disappointing Nomads cricket did not match the occasion.

Keith Alexander had pulled out and substituted Vivek although we had a 12th man Tom Kerrigan and others. Vivek turned out but was unfit. David Buiste rang up on Saturday night to say he was nursing a ballooning ankle struck by a cricket ball earlier and had better cry off.

Endless attempts to locate 12th man Tom proved fruitless as he turned up eventually in Suffolk by which time David was not answering his phones whether recovered or not.......and there were others keen to play at Eton.

So once again we fielded 10 when 12/13 wanted to play. A pity!
