A match of two bowlers

Marden won the toss and elected to bat. Marden's openers Maxted and Finn put on a decent opening stand against Smiley and Clark, the latter not quite bowling his usuall mean line and length.

Wickets began to fall steadily once Wilkins and Andrew Penn came on and the solid Maxted was run out for quite the highest individual score of the match. Wilkins finished with the very creditable figures of 6-35.

Nomads well pleased with themselves tucked into a splendid tea and a few added an ale or two. 163 was not much of a target!

Although run machine Whiteway was out early and the destructive Charles Penn bowled for 10, Nomads had reached 73 before the 4th wicket that of the obdurate Blumberg fell bowled Gallimore.

Gallimore a tall left arm seamer had now taken 3 wickets. He was to take a further 6 wickets as Nomads collapsed losing 6 wickets for a mere 25 runs Gallimore finishing with the outstanding figures of 9-32. A comprehensive defeat.

Despite this loss Nomads were to linger late into the night eating and drinking with Marden.

A few days after this match Nomads held a huge party at Tony Whiteway's newly opened shop at 3 Whitehall London SW1A 2DD and several members of Marden came as did some of the young ladies we met at Marden after the match when Mr Gallimore obviously bought a lot of beer.
