Nomads seam attack too strong for Leigh  

Nomads recorded a routine victory at the pretty setting of Leigh (near Betchworth) in Surrey and despite the cyclists wreaking havoc with transport links in the local area the game started on time, well almost.

Leigh's skipper, the burly Kanna won the toss and despite Brockers telling him Nomads had a far stronger side this season than in previous years decided to bat and a 40 over contest was agreed on.

Sajjad Shawl and Spain's Jamie Roper took the new cherry for the Nomads, Shawl dismissing Pinnock early in the piece, taken by keeper Saurabh Wahi. Roper was bowling a good line and length and clean bowled (off stump out of he ground on both occasions) Van Der Merwe and Kanna. However, Leigh progressed to 53-3 from 13 overs and a relatively even contest was looking likely.

The match then changed with the introduction of old stager Chris Page and Brockton who combined to dismiss the dangerous Smith (ct by a diving Brockton at 1st slip) then the Nomads captain took 3 wickets of his own to leave Leigh CC reeling at 64-7. The home sides plight was not assisted by the returning Ben Smith charging in and taking 3 wickets for just 8 runs in an impressive spell of bowling. Now 6"6 Ben is a real handful and extracted some steepeling bounce from the track forcing Uri and Chella to duck for cover on more than one occasion. Jamie Roper took a super catch at mid-off to end the innings and Leigh CC had been bundled out for just 84 in 32 overs.

An early tea was taken and after this David Steele and captain of Spain Chris Munoz strode out to open the batting for the Nomads. Their partnership realised 38 in just 5 overs with Munoz striking the ball crisply to the boundary on 5 occasions before being taken at long-off going for a maximum off leggie Kanna. Just when Leigh thought they might have a sniff in walked Sajjad Shawl, promoted up the order the finish the game quickly. His 33 off just 23 balls included two massive 6's but he was then stumped off the diminutive Seban with just 4 needed to win.

Saurabh Wahi came and went in the blink of an eye and the watchful David Steele (13 not out) won the game with a crisply struck back foot drive for 4. Nomads winners by 7 wickets with just over 26 overs remaining.

An early finish meant plenty of Orangiboom in the bar with some lingering Nomads also popping into the Seven Stars en route home.

Nomads have a busy week of cricket with matches vs Harpenden, Maidenhead & Bray, the Italian tourists Capanelle (at Chingford CC) and the Stoics (at Ascot House).
