Nomads triumph on first visit to Standlake
A steady innings from Tony Whiteway(75 including 1 six) when the rest underwhelmed helped Nomads to a modest total of 145 off 35.4 overs on their visit to Downs. Mike Gauntlett, formerly of Brook CC, had lured Nomads north of Oxford.
Doubtless Oxford Downs were confident of reaching their target but after a first wicket stand of 28 soon lost wickets to Lipson and Nagenda. When Ossie Gooding was brought into the attack wickets tumbled giving Ossie figures of 5-14 and reducing Downs to 92 all out. So mesmerised were the Downs tail that they treated Ian Crombie's bowling with great respect, a bare six runs off 3 overs.
The game had started late at 2.43pm yet with only 66.5 overs bowled to complete the match, this left a great of time for merriment after the match, a tradition Nomads were to sustain at Downs for several decades.
