Nomads in Spain Tour March 11th-16th

March 2010

Nomads enjoyed the annual spring visit to L'Alfas del Pi despite the unseasonal cool temperatures. Sadly three players we had expected, failed to  appear. Two of them with tickets bought by another member gave but one day's notice of this change of plan.  The President managed to injure his right knee before play began and another player went in the fetlock after two games. As a result we were a bit understrength on Saturday nevertheless that did not excuse our serious underperformance on the day when we still had three 1st XI Premier League or 1st division cricketers playing and several pretty good others as well. Dropping Mark Spencer (Derbyshire CCC 2nds & Spain) early did not help our cause. On Sunday we chased a fair target well and almost prized out the obdurate Forty Club in the only time game on Monday.

Ranjit Latchman, Kevin Smith and Simon Barter  hit nineties and despite being lame Michael Blumberg took 11 wickets. On Monday Jack Hyams played, now in his ninety first year. He failed to score a run or take a wicket but did stop several firmly hit shots in the field.
