Nomads victory thwarted by rain
With a day to go Nomads were well short of 11 but eventually reached 12 so much so we lent Ted Hopkinson to Wembley only for one of our players to fail to turn up. So 10 Nomads played 11 Wembley.
Wembley won the toss and batted. Nomads opened the bowling with the two teenage Yadav brothers, cousins of Vib, who had arrived on holiday from India the day before. AK was the more accurate but both took a wicket. Cousin Vib kept wicket for ten overs as a sub before handing over to a willing Ganesh who quickly handed over to AD Yadav who looked the part.
The Wembley innings was regulaly halted as players searched for lost balls producing a shockingly slow over rate. Once Ayaz was introduced the innings was one of contrast as at one end the overseas player Doyle smote the ball far and wide while at the other end wickets tumbled, four to Ayaz. In the end with no 11 at the other end Doyle set about Chris Page with his century in sight only to be utterly undone by the 'Professor', bowled 91. Wembley had posted 193 off 27 overs all out with three 'Ducks' indicative of the weater to come.
Nomads had a potential 43 overs to reach their target. Harry Lojhan hit his first ball for a fine straight drive for 4 only to miscue the next one and was caught! Patel and Khan then added 37 whereupon Patel was bowled by Shah. Ganesh joined Raheel Khan and struggled to score but Khan maintained the run rate and was looking good when he got carried away and was stumped for 49. Omer Ayaz came in at number 5 and looked to be in good form from the start. AK Yadav was soon out but his brother AD helped build a good partnership which had added 65 runs when persistant rain forced the game to be abandoned. Indeed the game may well have been called off some time earlier. Nomads were 9 runs short with 9.5 overs to go and Omer Ayaz had hit an accomplished 76 not out.
While the rain thwarted Nomads so had the late start to say nothing of the phenomenal time wasted searching for lost balls.
Some Nomads lingered at the bar and then visited a local Indian restaurant with Charlie Meyers to round off the day.
