MacPie top scores and Keith takes a threefer
Nomads comfortably won this veterans game in the end but it was evenly contested for much of the match. Both Richard MacKey and Herts Over 50s David Humphreys scored good fifties but it was the clean hitting of Keith Alexander that took Nomads up to a challending total at the end of 40 overs
After an excellent tea Martin Couch and Sunny Fernando opened the bowling and were unluckly to remain wicketless despite beating the bat regularly. Indeed Herts openers Tyler and Newman added 108 for the first wicket. Chris Page , Tony MacDonald -Barker and Stephen Gardiner all proved more expensive and without young fielders to take the inevitable catches were largely unrewarded.
The introduction of wicket keeper Keith Alexander with his gentle away swingers proved productive as three Herts batsmen succumbed. Skipper Tyler fell to MacDonald-Barker three short of a century and the return of Page saw another wicket fall. The momentum of the Herts innings had slumped and so Nomads finished winners by some 24 runs.
Nomads and Herts members drank long at the North London bar after what had been a very fine Autumnal day. Club skipper Tom Brockton joined us for the latter part of the match and evening quaffing.
