Rain spoils the day
This was Nomads first visit to John Lyon School where two young Nomads have been 1st XI captain, Owen and Tom Marshall. Indeed Owen is the current captain.
Andrew Marshall his father skippered the Nomads XI won the toss and elected to bat. Mike Blake and Vib Yadav opened for Nomads, the latter haveing scored 97 for Frogs the previous day. Veldereldersib continued his good formscoring freely from the start although Mike Blake struggled to pierce the ring of keen young fielders. Mike Blake fell at 24 lbw to Francis who had struggled with his radar giving away 6 wides and ano ball in his six overs.
Vib Yadav dominated the morning's play with shots all round the ground icluding several big straight sixes.Jon Thornton playing second fiddle assisted Vib with a second wicket stand of 111 runs. Vib in his nineties mishit another straight drive and was caught on 93. Alex Dillon then joined Thornton and at lunch the score was 143-2 off 30 overs.
During lunch it began to rain and did not relent so the game was abandoned. John Lyon did then provide a good number of free beers and ciders which was most welcome but did not really compensate for the disappointment of such a shortened game. Luckily for the boys the other matches in the school cricket week were all played to a finish.
In the 1950s and before Nomads used to play a lot of matches against independent schools so perhaps we should resume this activity.
Thanks are due to Andrew Marshall and Adam Ling for arranging the match.
