Nomads batting complements the good bowling

Nomads ran out comfortable winners against Montenotte at Crouch End CC on Thursday. Montenotte skipper Newton won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like the usual low/slow Crouch End deck. Nomads had a strong side and were welcoming Barnes 1st XI opening bowler Rich Craig back into the fold after a long absence.

In tandem with the other new ball but slow bowler Andrew Smith, Craig bowled an immaculate line and length and after 20 overs Montenotte were stuttering at 58-2. Indeed, changes in the bowling did not assist the opposition with Oliver Croom-Johnson clean bowling star player Razvi and experienced campaigner Chris Page taking 3 wickets in an accurate spell of bowling including the scalp of the dour opener Paul Furness who soaked up 72 balls for his 18 runs at the top of the order although with aright shoulder injury.
Skipper Tom Brockton and Chris Royals knocked over the tail to leave Montenotte 159 all out from 49.3 overs. Nomads would have an hour plus 20 overs to chase this modest total.

Although Nomads lost Chingford CC's Mike Blake early in the piece Andy Button and the burly Sean Reilly progressed the score forward at quite a pace until Reilly was dismissed for a pugnacious 27. Ghosh and Fernando also went cheaply but Button was looking in fine form and brought up a deserved half century before holing out to long off via the bowling of Nootan Shah.

Brockton and Dom Ramjag knocked off the remaining 20 runs required with consummate ease, Ramjag finishing the match in some style with a straight drive back over the bowlers head. Nomads running out winners by 5 wickets with some 10 overs remaining.
