 Damp Defeat

Finally Nomads UK season got under way at a very damp day at North London CC. New Skipper Brockers won the toss and decided to bat but forgot to discuss numbers .Nomads were nine expecting a tenth while Montenotte were 13. Instead of evening up the batting line up Nomads persisted with nine while two Montenotte players changed back into civvies and went home or perhpas to Lord's.

Batting was not simple on such a dampp pitch and with the outfield even wetter runs were slow to come despite a solid opening partnership from shazeb and andy smith. Shahzeb was just getting into a higher gear when he holed out for a good fifty with the score on 97.Nomads with a decent line up including two 'overseas' were looking at 200 plus but this turned out to be the substance of mere dreams. Brockers was adjudged lbw for amere 3 and Andy smith soon followed for 40.

After that it was a swift procession as our cavalier batting failed to adjust to the slow soft pitch and Montenotte kept holding their catches. So Nomads slumped to 132 all out. not quite what we were aiming for.

After a splendid tea Nomads bowlers were tight and mean so much so that Montenotte crawled along at 2 runs an over until the 13th. However opener Woolf and number three Newton stuck it out reaching 81 in the 25th over before Woolf fell to 'Luigi' Gardiner for a wll grafted 54.

Brockers revolved the bowling Gardiner took another wicket via a good catch by Shahzeb in the deep and Alexander had Alton lbw for a duck but the dogged Newton and number 6 Love made the runs for a substantial win by 6 wickets and with 5.2 overs to go!.
