Feeble Nomads Batting no match for Leatherhead

Leatherhead won the toss and batted first and found the combination of Harsh Sharma seam and Chris Page spin a handful. At 10 overs the home side were 24-2 then Peak took an almighty swipe at Page completely missed but sadly the ball  shaved the stumps and he survived.Having ovecome this indiscretion the left hander then peppered the short onside boundary with sixes such that 103 runs were added in 10 overs making it 127 off 20. This onslaught ended with the removal of Baker 0n 44 by Singh and then Peak for 78 by Harsh.

Nomads then restrained the remaining Leatherhead batsmen removing a further five before the close on 227-9. again this would have been seriously less if all our catches had been held, chris Page forgiven for his incredible diving attempt at short mid wicket.

A target of 227 should have been within reach of the Nomads top order but having reached 40 for no wicket we were soon 54-5 and the game was over.Red haired Slevin bowling innocuous little drifters bamboozled first Lascelles but then Wycherley and Hill into powerful straight drives when over extra cover would probably have sufficed despite the ball stopping a bit.

This left the ancient and the modern from Jaipur to restore the innings but at 90-9 all that class and experience in yesteryear stood for nought. And yet the last pair with 136 years between added 39 runs so at least we were not beaten by over 100, indeed Charlton Lamb in his 71st year top scored including a six.

It was a pity so few regular Nomads were available at the seaons conclusion especially on such a sunny day as we had  at Leatherhead. In Uk despite all that rotten weather we won 17 matches and lost 7 with 4 drawn. Including the March visit to spain we have now won 19 this years so if we can do well with our second visit we may equal our record number of wins in a year yet but not if we drop catches as per last weekend.
